STORY TIME
“Your work requires storytelling.”
The other day I was talking to an old peer.
He said: “Your work requires storytelling. Do you tell stories to your people?”
I said: “I waver between saying: ‘never’ and ‘always’.”
He nodded knowingly. “Yeah, I get that. But that’s your tool for communicating. Cos have you got stories to tell!”
And he’s right.
Also, I love sharing stories and insights. But then I never really do.
It’s not that I don’t want to.
It’s not even that I can’t find the time.
It’s because I process while I express.
I process All. The. Time.
Processing, for me, is a 24-7 thing, where every word invariably leads to the next.
And before you know it, a single paragraph has turned into a chapter, and a single story has become a book.
And who has the time to read all that, right?
I try not to ask that of my people.
So then I edit. And I cut stuff out.
Meanwhile, I shift lanes.
Writing is creative, but editing is much more of a cognitive job.
And so I edit the heart and the soul right out of the story.
What’s left may make a lot of sense.
But it’s neither relatable nor attractive.
Not even to me. So I dump the whole thing into the trash can.
And I wish I could now say: “And then I start over!”
But I don’t. Cos whatever I was writing about needed processing.
And when the processing is done, it’s done…
By the time I’ve edited it into nothingness, I’ve done all the processing I needed.
And at that point I’m ready to move on.
So whatever was in that piece for you, you’re never going to read it.
Because I can’t spend my days editing things into bite-size bits.
What I can do, is add a TL;DR at the top. A Too Long; Didn’t Read.
Those typically contain the essence.
And then you decide whether or not you want to delve in.
Just know: there isn’t always a point, 😁
If I have to crystalise the point of every story, then there’s no point in writing it:
Half the time I don’t see the point myself until a few hours later…
Case in point: what I really wanted to say with this piece, is that we all process in different ways.
I process verbally. The other day someone said ‘touch is my love language’.
And that’s really what triggered all this, because I thought: “Hmm… I have two… energy – and insights. Those are my love languages.”
To bridge the gap, I use words.
I don’t do that whole ‘sitting together in silence’-thing so well.
Yeah, maybe on day three.
But I sit in silence the whole merry day.
If you show up in my space, there will be words.
Lots and lots of words. From you to me, from me to you.
So, how does knowing this about me serve you?
It probably doesn’t!
Unless you’re also a verbal processor and you now think: “Huh! So that’s what I do!” Or, conversely, you know me personally, and think: “Huh, so that’s why she never shuts up.” 😆
Clearing this space
But I realised that before I could start sharing my stories with you, I needed to clear this space.
So: Hi, I’m Dani and I’m a verbal processor.
Methodically ordering words helps me recognise the underlying structures and undercurrents. It helps me give meaning to our experience – and it’s how I give meaning back to the world.
And I’ll stop here before this becomes a book.
Much love,
Dani 💕

Adam & the Girl who only kissed once
Adam was a sweet 17-year-old who told me about a girl he liked — a girl who only kissed once.
What started as a simple story about teenage romance became a reflection on how easily we project our expectations onto others, and how doing so locks them — and ourselves — into patterns we never meant to create.

Pointing out the Obvious to the Oblivious
Welcome to Story Time: stories and events that help connect the dots.
Today’s story is about the elephant in the room. When I mentioned recently that I’m in the habit of naming it when I see it, I got an immediate response: “Me too!” “Geesh, same!” and “Yeah, and guess what, people don’t like that one bit!”
True dat! So let’s connect the dots on that, in this episode of Story Time: Pointing out the Obvious for the Oblivious.

I know you’re the youngest, but try and be the wisest!
Even when I was a kid, my brother was a handful. Which led to my parents invariably saying, “I know he’s the eldest, but why don’t you try and be the wisest.”
Over time that became code for: “We know it sucks. But it’s easier for everyone if you just suck it up.”

Meet Dani
Hey! Let’s unplug with some stuff that doesn’t normally come up in conversations. I think my biggest struggle has always been not having anyone in my corner. With three extremely engaged awareness levels there were many ways in which a little HSP-Empath could be shut down. And people did. Unwittingly, inadvertently – and incessantly.

DELIBERATE CREATION - Mini Series: "How Needy are You?"
My guides are a deliberate product of my imagination. I create them through my writing and their frequency is aligned with whatever I need to address. We converse together, characters in an imaginary novel that never ends.
These guides are tangible and real to me: I know what they look like, the sound of their voice – even their scent. They help me gain insights –especially into the dynamics of relationships, beliefs and manifesting.
Even the most antagonistic of characters in my imaginary novel is infinitely patient, letting me explore a topic until I see what previously eluded me. I control the pen, and we replay the scene – over and over – until I catch the message.
Of course, I don’t control the pen. Not really. As any writer will tell you, our characters do. That’s why we write: to find out what happens.
Writing this imaginary novel is without doubt one of my most powerful manifesting tools, because it lets me catch my thoughts from an infinite variety of different angles.
Sometimes a new character will present, and I will sit back and let it unfold. That’s what this series is about. His name is Pierce and he first appeared a few years ago, fairly antagonistically. He then retreated into the background from where he reemerged last year.
In the mini-series “How Needy are You?” I share some of the breakthrough insights Pierce brought me, on boundaries, manipulation and needs.

4. How Needy are You?
Chapter 4: Pierce and the Manipulation
When I first wrote about Pierce, in the beginning of 2024, he had just shown Deeann there’s a difference between having needs and being needy. That story was so deeply layered that I decided to rewrite it as a series, but I must say: the last thing I expected at the time, was to discover just how manipulative I could be…

3. How Needy are You?
Chapter 3: Pierce and the Sliding Sense of Self
Dynamics are never straightforward, not in relationships – and not in manifesting. There is always an action that precedes even the very first action. Pierce dismissed Deeann before she was even aware of him (and why wouldn’t he?) – and just like that, a sliding sense of self began. Locked roles, fawning, resistance. And the maze continued to unfold…

2. How Needy are You?
Chapter 2: Pierce and the Fawn Response
I ended the last post by saying Pierce had no intention of wasting time on a fawning sycophant like Deeann. That’s quite the statement, given that Deeann represents my own sensory self, my heart-body. So, someone like Pierce would not waste any time on a fawning sycophant – like me? Wait, whut?

1. How Needy are You?
Chapter 1: Pierce Appears
A new character appeared in my imaginary novel – Pierce. Antagonistic, confident, and unapologetically himself. I typically use an energy like his so that I can learn to reinforce my boundaries. Since we can revisit the same situation over and over, I get a true feeling for the dynamic. I get to see what happens when I do ’this’ – and how he responds when I do ’that’.
